St. Kilda is one of those special locations in the world where you feel a connection to the planet. Home to over a million sea birds during the summer and the UK’s remotest village, this world-class location will have a huge impression on you. It’s the ultimate location for dramatic landscapes, seascapes, and bird photography (puffins, great skuas, fulmar, St. Kilda wren, and many more).
We are the only company with permission to take groups of photographers onto the island and stay overnight. We have the enormous privilege of being able to sleep in the original village houses which gives an extra sense of what life would have been like for the St. Kildans before they abandoned their islands for an easier life on the mainland in 1930.
The days in July are long, so we factor in lots of rest time when the day-tourists are walking about the village. When they leave at 4pm we have the place to ourselves, and this is when we usually venture out for our evening photo session. Sunset isn’t until 11pm, and sunrise is just after 4am, so don’t expect to get too much sleep during the night!
We take our own chef with us who keeps everyone well fed and watered. Meal times are arranged around our photography so that no one misses the best light.
We charter our own boat between the Isle of Skye and St. Kilda which takes about 4 hours each way. We also build in a sea tour of the islands and sea stacks which is a highlight of the trip for many.
During our rest time we will hold informal post production and critique sessions for anyone interested.
As with all our trips, we will have two guides to ensure everyone gets one-to-one tuition time if required.
