China Water Town 2019 Photography Holiday

Our trips to China offer an experience which simply cannot be achieved without local knowledge and local translators. This holiday is all about seeing the authentic side of China and being shown how best to document everything you witness with stunning photography. For 2019 we are offering a brand new itinerary. Starting in Shanghai, we then move on to some of China's picturesque ancient water towns. Zhangjaijie is our next destination, and with four days to explore the area you'll get right under the skin of this unique and breathtaking landscape.

We will ease you into the orient by staying in a luxury hotel in the developed area of Pudong which offers world class urban landscape opportunities. We will eat at traditional fine restaurants to sample the best of Shanghaiese food. We then travel a couple of hours into rural China where we largely leave the 21st century behind and transport ourselves into the living past. We will spend a night in each of three ancient water towns which have been largely unchanged over hundreds of years. They are like a Venice of the Orient with their network of canals, alleyways, and footbridges. There are no roads inside these walled towns, which gives them a charm and atmosphere rarely found anywhere these days. One of the towns has an ancient Chinese water garden which offers yet more photo opportunities.

We then head to Zhangjiajie (Jang-Jar-Jee-a) China’s first National Park and location for the Hollywood film Avatar. This is truly one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes, with vertical columns of limestone rising hundreds of metres into the air from a deep canyon floor. We will explore the views from both above and below, and there is a good chance of snow covering the peaks during our visit which makes it even more special.

Finally we head back to the modern world for our last night in Shanghai before flights depart the following day. You can choose to extend your stay in Shanghai if you wish, or you could opt to travel onto Beijing or Hong Kong for a few extra days.

As with all our trips, we will have two professional photography guides to ensure everyone gets one-to-one tuition time if required. We also have a full time translator with us to allow us to mingle with the locals.

This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a unique and authentic travel experience which will stay with you forever.

  • The organisation is what impressed me the most. You seemed to have thought through every detail, yet were open to changing plans spontaneously to get us in the right place at the best times for photography. Thank you so much.

  • As a lone travelling female I often feel a little insecure when I’m not in control, but you guys made me feel so safe and relaxed that I was able to forget about everything else other than enjoying myself.
